Singh: Barnt Green Spartak must 'right the wrongs' this weekend

BARNT Green Spartak boss GJ Singh is calling on his players to ‘right some wrongs’ as they face Midland League Division Two basement side Earlswood Town this weekend.

Spartak’s poor away form continued on Saturday as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Wayne Davis’ Fairfield Villa.

Singh’s men had taken a surprise half-time lead when Nathaniel Hare’s cross was juggled into his own net by Villa keeper Chris Mole.

However, two second half goals from Stuart Hall turned things around for Villa as Spartak slumped to their third away defeat in six league outings.

And boss Singh was left disappointed with the result as he felt his side had more than enough opportunities to double their lead prior to Villa’s equaliser.

He said: “I think the underlying factor was Fairfield wanted the result more than what we did.

“Some of my players had the mentality that the team and the individual is better than what they actually are which in the end cost us the game.

“Fairfield dominated us the first half but I would not say the scoreline flattered us because we had more than enough chances to go 2-0 which would have made things different.

“I was more disappointed with our own performance which was unacceptable.

“Before every game I demand the players to give it their all and they did not do that this time around.”

Spartak will be looking to return to winning ways on Saturday when they entertain basement side Earlswood at The Coppice Ground – the home of Highgate United.

And with James Ward, who has recently signed from Droitwich Spa, and Jacob Snape expected to return to action, Singh is prepared for a feisty encounter.

“From our point of view we have got some wrongs which need to be put right from our defeat on Saturday,” he added.

“Earlswood have had a change of management and they have got a few players there which I used to have under my wing last season so there’s some extra spice to the game.

“It’s going to be a very competitive game but by no means is it going to be easy.”

Meanwhile, Spartak will entertain Coventry Alliance Premier Division outfit Stockton in the second round of the Birmingham FA Saturday Vase on November 19.
