RUGBY UNION - Bromsgrove youngsters take part in Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup

BROMSGROVE’s youngsters finally returned to action in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup last weekend held at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium.

The Premiership club played host to the under-11 and under-12 grassroots developmental festival which included a myriad of teams from the Midlands – including Bromsgrove – and the surrounding areas.

This series of nationwide events, running for nearly two decades and organised by Land Rover – the Official Vehicle of Premiership Rugby – has seen more than 100,000 children take part to date.

Chipping Norton won the under-12 competition whilst Breton Star scooped the under-11 prize based on their demonstration of the core values of the game during the festival – respect, togetherness, strength of character and composure.

The prize for the winners was a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup Trophy and a trip to Twickenham – the home of England Rugby.

The competition was a fantastic spectacle for those in attendance, with the highly competitive fixtures providing a meaningful platform for youngsters to develop their rugby skills.

Graduates of the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup have gone on to realise their rugby ambitions, with several players now playing for Premiership Rugby clubs, including Louis Lynagh at Harlequins and Callum Chick at Newcastle Falcons.

And Worcester star Justin Clegg – who attended the event – said: “I grew up in Worcester so I’m seeing a lot of clubs that I’ve been to in the past and it’s nice to see them coming together.

“It’s been great. I’ve seen a lot of smiles on faces. I think that’s the main thing we want for the kids, to be able to get back out and spend some time together. That’s what makes rugby so great.

“It’s not all about the playing, it’s about camaraderie and learning the key values that rugby teaches. It’s great to be able to get out and see the kids play again.”
