JORDAN Maddocks scored a hat-trick in vain as Bromsgrove RFC suffered an agonising 31-30 defeat away at Stourbridge.

Maddocks touched down three times at Stourton Park while Ollie Ingram and Will Parkes also dotted down as a number of missed conversions proved costly for the Boars.

And the result means Bromsgrove sit fourth in the Regional 1 Midlands table, nine points behind leaders Syston, after coming away with two bonus points.

The Boars eventually broke the deadlock on 25 minutes when Maddocks crossed under the posts and Will Harris added the extras.

Stourbridge replied with a converted try of their own straight from the restart before Harris kicked a penalty to put the Boars back in front.

However, the home side scored a second converted try before the break to leave Bromsgrove four points behind at the interval.

Bromsgrove made a blistering start to the second half as Maddocks and Ingram both crossed to turn the game in the away side’s favour.

The hosts responded once again with a penalty and a try restore their four-point advantage before Maddocks completed his hat-trick with a try in the corner.

However, Stourbridge dotted down under the posts to reclaim the lead before Parkes crossed for Bromsgrove to set up a grandstand finish.

The Boars pushed for a late score only for Stourbridge to turn the ball over on their own five-metre line and clear the ball to touch with the clock in the red.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Kenilworth on Saturday, December 21 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Finstall Park.
