BROMSGROVE RFC secured a 27-11 victory against high-flying Stourbridge to put a dent in the away side’s title challenge.
Tries from Nathan Fisher, Alex Wilkinson and Ross Attwood, as well as 12 points from the boot of Will Tanner, helped the Boars to a well-deserved victory at Finstall Park.
And the result means Bromsgrove sit fourth in the Regional 1 Midlands table.
The home side made a blistering start as Fisher burst through two Stourbridge players before handing off a third and scoring under the posts with Tanner adding the extras.
And the Boars stretched their lead five minutes later when Tanner kicked a penalty before Wilkinson drove over the line close to the posts and Tanner converted to give the hosts a 17-point lead.
Stourbridge responded with two Sam Vaughan penalties before the break after Bromgrove held up a try over the line and a forward pass denied the visitors their first score of the match.
The away side remained camped inside the Boars 22 at the start of the second period as Bromsgrove defended superbly to keep the visitors at bay.
And Bromsgrove then won a penalty following a high tackle on prop Finn Haynes as Tanner successfully kicked the ball between the posts to extend the home side’s lead.
Stourbridge scored their only try of the match with 10 minutes left to play only for the Boars to seal the points late on when Attwood barged through the last defender to dot down and finish off a flowing move.
Tanner completed a perfect day from the kicking tee with another conversion as the Boars secured a first-ever home win against Stourbridge.
Bromsgrove are next in action away at Broadstreet on Saturday, March 2 with kick-off at 3pm at the Ivor Preece Field.
