JORDAN Maddocks crossed twice as Bromsgrove RFC secured their first away win of the year with a 26-17 bonus point victory at Old Halesonians.

Maddocks scored both of his tries in the second half while Drew Harper and Josh Holt also touched down for the Boars at Wassell Grove.

And the result means Bromsgrove sit fourth in the Regional 1 Midlands table.

The Boars took an early three-point lead courtesy of Will Tanner’s fourth-minute penalty and defended superbly to keep the home side at bay for the next quarter hour with the visitors camped in their own 22.

However, Bromsgrove lost captain Tom Hardwick soon after with the Boars skipper stretchered off with a suspected broken leg.

Following a lengthy delay, Old Halesonians scored the game’s first try only for Bromsgrove to respond with a try of their own as Harper darted through a gap to dot down.

The home side struck again shortly before half time as Tanner kicked a second penalty to send the Boars into the break trailing by a single point.

Old Halesonians crossed for their third try at the start of the second period only to miss the conversion from in front of the posts.

However, the Boars scored three unconverted tries in the space of 20 minutes to turn the game on its head as Maddocks touched down either side of Holt’s try.

And the visitors comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure a first away win since December last year.

Bromsgrove are next in action at home to title challengers Stourbridge on Saturday, February 24 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Finstall Park.
