A RUGBY player from Bromsgrove School has received a call-up to the French Rugby Federation’s (FFR) National Elite Pathway.

Bromsgrove School first team player Nelson Pompigne-Mognard will join FFR’s prestigious ‘Générations Bleues’ programme.

The national elite development pathway is designed to identify, develop and prepare France’s most promising young rugby talents for future international careers.

And the ‘Générations Bleues’ project also targets elite under-17 and under-18 players with strong potential to progress to France’s under-20 side and ultimately the senior national team.

The programme involves a number of national ‘Stage Bleu’ camps. Players undergo comprehensive physical, technical, tactical and mental assessments.

Players’ performances are measured against the standards and expectations of international rugby. This is done under the close supervision of FFR national selectors, elite coaches and performance staff.

Pompigne-Mognard will attend a ‘Stage Bleu’ high performance training camp from January 23 to 25 in France. He will train alongside the country’s leading under-18 male players.

French-born Pompigne-Mognard is of African descent and spent the 2022/23 season playing under-16 rugby in Portugal for Lisbon-based Grupo Desportivo Direito.

He won the National under-16 Championship during his time in Portugal before moving to Bromsgrove School in 2024.

Pompigne-Mognard plays primarily as a number eight for Bromsgrove School and can also play at flanker.

The 17-year-old is supported by a high-performance team assembled to guide every aspect of his athletic, physical and mental development.

Pompigne-Mognard ranked as the second best number eight at the NextGenXV Global Schools Challenge last year – a five-day elite tournament held in Spain.

Away from the pitch, Pompigne-Mognard also founded the Bromsgrove Black Students Association (BBSA). The association aims to celebrate African cultures and also promote cultural awareness within the school community.

He is currently a boarder at Bromsgrove School in Year 13.
