BROMSGROVE RFC saw their perfect home record come to an end after they were beaten 16-10 by Sheffield RFC at Finstall Park.

The Boars had won their previous eight fixtures on home soil but were only able to come away with a losing bonus point in a game of fine margins.

Tom Hardwick touched down Bromsgrove’s only try after the break with Will Harris adding five points from the kicking tee.

And the result means the Boars sit fifth in the Midlands Premier table, trailing leaders Newport (Salop) by 17 points.

The Boars were punished for an ill-disciplined first half display which allowed Sheffield to kick three penalties and take a nine-point lead into the interval.

However, Bromsgrove gave themselves hope through Hardwick’s try five minutes into the second period with Harris kicking the extras to reduce the deficit to two points.

Sheffield produced an immediate response, scoring in the corner from the restart after several phases wore down the Boars line.

Bromsgrove were camped on the Sheffield for much of the remainder of the game but were unable to break through with Harris kicking a penalty three minutes from time to secure a losing bonus point.

The Boars are next in action at home to Doncaster Phoenix on Saturday, February 12 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Finstall Park.
