RUGBY UNION - Bromsgrove rescue losing bonus point in Bridgnorth defeat

OLI Ingram’s last-minute try earned Bromsgrove RFC a losing bonus point as the Boars slipped to a 16-11 home defeat against Bridgnorth.

Ingram scored Bromsgrove’s only try at the death after Will Tanner kicked two penalties as Bridgnorth’s resilient defence held firm at Finstall Park.

And the result means the Boars sit sixth in the Regional 1 Midlands table.

Bridgnorth held Bromsgrove up over the line once in the first half and three more times in the second period on a frustrating afternoon for the Boars.

The visitors scored the game’s first try through Connor Nicholls on 20 minutes which came either side of penalties from the boot of Matthew Needham.

That came after Tanner kicked Bromsgrove into an early lead in what proved to be the home side’s only points of the first half.

Tanner reduced the deficit with another penalty at the start of the second period only for George Newman to cross for Bridgnorth on 65 minutes and open up a two-score gap between the teams.

Bromsgrove almost found a way through from the restart as Ed Spalding passed inside to Jordan Maddocks only for the Boars winger to have the ball ripped from his arms five-metres from the line.

The Boars eventually scored their first try in the final minute as Ingram dotted down in the corner to rescue a losing bonus point from the fixture.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday, January 6 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Hartwell Lane.
