BROMSGROVE RFC returned to winning ways with a comfortable 31-7 bonus point victory against Syston.

Ed Spalding crossed twice for the Boars while Alex Wilkinson and Jordan Maddocks also touched down for the home side at Finstall Park.

The result means Bromsgrove sit fourth in the Regional 1 Midlands table.

Both defences held firm until Will Tanner successfully kicked a penalty from in front of the posts on the quarter hour mark to edge the Boars into the lead after a high tackle on Drew Harper.

And Bromsgrove scored the game’s first try soon after when Wilkinson burst through a gap to dot down his first Boars try under the posts with Tanner adding the extras.

Syston responded with a converted try of their own, which would prove to be the away side’s only points of the match, before Josh Holt had a try disallowed after he put his foot in touch as he dove for the line.

The Boars ran away with the game in the second period as Maddocks crossed for a try before Spalding touched down twice with Tanner kicking two conversions and Will Harris adding the final extras.

And the home side kept Syston at bay in the second half to complete a first-ever league double over the Leicestershire club.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Old Halesonians on Saturday, February 17 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Wassell Grove Lane.
