WILL Tanner converted a last-minute penalty to earn Bromsgrove RFC a dramatic 34-33 win against Bournville.

Tanner won the game for the Boars with the last kick of the game at Finstall Road as he added 14 points from the kicking tee.

That came after tries from Josh Holt, Jack Medley, Ollie Ingram and Jordan Maddocks secured a bonus point for the home side.

The result means Bromsgrove sit fifth in the Regional 1 Midlands table.

Bournville scored the game’s first try inside the opening five minutes only for a Tanner penalty to reduce the deficit.

The visitors missed a penalty attempt later in the first half before having a player sent off with 18 minutes on the clock.

Tanner kicked the resulting penalty to close the gap to a single point. And Holt then crossed for Bromsgrove’s first try in the corner to put the Boars ahead.

However, Bournville hit back shortly after the restart in an end-to-end contest.

The back-and-forth action continued as Medley collected Will Parkes’ basketball style offload and scored under the posts after Wil Llewellyn broke through the Bournville defence from deep inside his own half.

And Tanner kicked a penalty on the stroke of half time to send Bromsgrove into the break with a nine-point lead.

The Boars looked to put the game to bed early in the second half when Ingram scored in the corner to stretch the home side’s lead.

However, Bournville stunned the hosts with two converted tries of their own to level the game at 26-apiece despite playing with a man less.

Bromsgrove reclaimed the lead when Maddocks touched down in the corner only for the referee to award a penalty try to Bournville following a scrum with 10 minutes left to play.

With the clock in the red, the Boars won a penalty close to the left touchline and Tanner kept his cool to slot the ball between the posts and earn the points.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Drybrook on Saturday, October 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the Mannings Ground.
