BROMSGROVE RFC lost 31-28 away at second-placed Stourbridge after the home side kicked a late penalty.

A 78th minute penalty condemned the Boars to defeat after tries from Chris Romano, Drew Harper and Ed Spalding and 13 points from the boot of Will Tanner at Stourton Park.

And the result means Bromsgrove sit third in the Regional 1 Midlands table with two matches left to play.

The game exploded into life on 13 minutes when loosehead prop Romano outpaced the Stourbridge full back to score under the posts.

Both teams then kicked a penalty apiece before Stourbridge scored two quickfire tries and kicked another penalty to take a commanding lead.

However, the Boars cut the deficit to six points at the break when Harper dotted down on the stroke of half time and Tanner added the extras.

Another Tanner penalty after the interval further reduced the deficit before Stourbridge scored an interception try from 80-metres out to lead by two scores.

Boars captain Spalding touched down in the corner on 67 minutes to set up an exciting finish before Tanner kicked his third penalty of the game to level the scores with five minutes left to play.

However, the visitors were forced to settle for a losing bonus point when a Stourbridge penalty from distance sailed through the middle of the posts with just two minutes remaining.

Bromsgrove are next in action at home to Old Halesonians on Thursday, March 28 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Finstall Park.
