RUGBY UNION - Boars stay perfect at home with Derby win

TOM Sadler ran in two tries to help Bromsgrove RFC to a 40-15 bonus point win against Derby and maintain the Boars perfect home record.

Sadler’s tries were supported by scores from Josh Holt, Adam Whiteman and Russ Brown whilst Will Harris impressed with the boot in an individual 15-point haul at Finstall Park.

The result means Bromsgrove sit seventh in the Regional 1 Midlands table and have scored 40 points or more in each of their three home matches this season.

And the Boars were chomping at the bit to play on their home turf having last played at Finstall Park almost one month previously.

Bromsgrove made a fast start and edged into a three-point lead courtesy of Harris’s early penalty from in front of the posts.

And the Boars then scored the game’s first try as Holt ran clear down the left before breaking three attempted Derby tackles to touch down with Harris adding the extras.

Derby finally troubled the scoreboard with a penalty from right in front only for Bromsgrove to hit back with a penalty of their own.

And Bromsgrove pulled further clear when Whiteman took a quick tap and go to break the Derby defence before passing inside to Kieran Haynes who drew in the defenders and returned the ball to the former who scored from five metres out with Harris adding the extras.

However, Derby scored in their first try of the match in the corner, on the stroke of half time, with the conversion sending Bromsgrove into the break with a 20-10 lead.

The Boars responded after the interval and struck just two minutes into the second period when Brown forced his way over the line from a scrum with Harris successful with the conversion.

Derby scored their second try on 50 minutes but were unable to add the extras as the game became a scrappy affair with neither side able to make a breakthrough until after the hour mark.

Harris kicked another penalty on 65 minutes before Derby had a player sent to the sin bin as Bromsgrove went in search of a bonus point try.

And the Boars grabbed their bonus point try when Spalding broke 50-metres and set up Sadler to finish his first try in the corner.

Sadler completed the scoring on 77 minutes when he broke the tackle of the visiting full back and dived over in the corner.

Bromsgrove are next in action against local rivals and league leaders Dudley Kingswinford on Saturday, October 29 with kick-off at 3pm at Heathbrook.
