Rouslers cannot be complacent against Bolehall, says Smith

BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith has said his side must not show any complacency this weekend as they welcome second-from-bottom Bolehall Swifts to the Victoria Ground.

The Midland Football League Division One fixture was set to be played at Bolehall’s home ground Rene Road, but with their pitch unlikely to be ready in time for Saturday’s game, the fixture has been reversed, and for boss Smith, it’s a case of not slipping up in front of the Sporting faithful.

“I’ve got to crack the whip on the players this week so that they don’t falter,” he said.

“We have to continue with our work ethic and as a club vying for promotion, I expect nothing less than a win.”

Reece Hewitt starred in last weekend’s game against Leicester Road, scoring twice to help his side on their way to a 3-0 win but was taken off after the hour mark after picking up a slight knock leaving Rouslers fans slightly concerned.

However, Smith says that there is nothing serious behind the substitution.

“Taking Reece off at that time of the match was just a precaution,” he said.

“The lad has been carrying a slight calf and groin strain for quite a while now so that shows the strength he has to keep on playing.

“We will keep an eye on his fitness during our training sessions but one thing is for sure, he will be the first player to ask if he’s starting.”

There’s no other injury doubts going into Saturday’s fixture but midfielder Luke Dugmore will be returning after completing his one match suspension meaning Smith has a full squad to choose from.

“We have a very good group of players in our squad,” he said.

“Reece has been instrumental the past few weeks but we’ve got quality running throughout the squad.

“There’s a number of players in our squad that have a crucial role and we’d like to keep them fit going into the latter stages of the season.”
