A REDNAL boy came away with a bronze medal at the Under-12 National Cup held in Grantham.
Nathaniel Saunders, 11, was seeded third for the tournament which pits the top ten players on the Table Tennis England rankings table against each other on a round-robin basis to decide the champion.
The Colmers School student lived up to his seeding as he won six of his nine matches, including a key 3-1 (14-12, 10-12, 11-3, 11-2) victory over second seed Oliver Maric-Murray.
He finished behind unbeaten champion Connor Green and fourth seed Jakub Piwowar who took silver.
Saunders said: “I’m happy. I feel like I’ve proved to myself that I can play table tennis and that people know I’m here.
“It was a really tough event but I also thought it was good because everyone gets to play everyone, so it’s all fair.”
