Redditch United striker Cowley dual signs with Bromsgrove Sporting

BROMSGROVE Sporting have announced the dual registration signing of striker Jason Cowley from Southern League Premier Division outfit Redditch United.

Cowley lit up Midland League Division Three last season as he helped Redditch Borough secure promotion to Division Two with 26 goals in 25 appearances.

But after making the step up to the Reds’ first team, the prolific forward has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities after making just two first team appearances in mid-August.

Cowley will now team up with Rouslers boss Paul Smith at the Victoria Ground but should Reds boss Darren Byfield require Cowley’s services, he will be called back to the Valley Stadium.

Smith said: “I have watched Jason for a while now and wherever he has gone he has scored goals.

“He’s raw, quick and strong and he will be in the squad of 16 for Saturday’s trip to Pelsall Villa but I won’t be sorting the starting 11 out until after our training session.

“I’ve put a number of seven day approaches in for players as I’m just looking to add bits and pieces into the squad, especially with Will Tibbetts being unavailable until after Christmas due to work commitments at his bank.

“I’m not happy with the performances. We are not performing at an eight out of 10 at the moment so hopefully new faces will pep the lads up.”

Cowley now joins a strong Sporting attack force which features Sean Brain, Chris Conway, Tony Clarke and Chris Lloyd.

And with so many forward options, it’s going to be hard to keep them all happy. That however is not a concern for Smith as he told the Standard the priority is they need to keep him happy.

He added: “We are not scoring enough goals in this side compared to the chances we are creating.

“I don’t rest on my laurels, if something needs improving I will improve it.

“I’m not too concerned about keeping players happy. My strikers needs to keep me happy by scoring goals.”
