DORJE Weston won powerlifting gold for Great Britain at the IPF World Junior Powerlifting Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Weston overcame a back injury to compete at the Championships after achieving outstanding results in his GCSE’s.

He attempted new lifting techniques in order to prevent further injury to his back and began with a squat of 182.5kg.

Weston then produced his record-breaking bench to win gold before a deadlift of 190kg rounded of a strong showing from the 16-year-old who finished ninth in the overall standings.

Weston and his family are grateful to everyone who supported and donated to help the teenager compete in Romania with special thanks to EJ Gilbert’s and HB9 – The Harry Bennett Foundation.

The 16-year-old is now gearing up for the European Championships in Budapest, Hungary in October.
