Old Bromsgrovians Cannons firing, but late comeback denies them victory in Summer League

A NARROW loss to Saracens Fawns meant that Old Bromsgrovians Cannons were unable to extend their winning streak in the Worcester Netball League Premier Division on Monday.

The Cannons beat Zodiac Supernovas by a single goal in the 47-46 victory the previous week, but knew a tougher task awaited them against the Fawns.

And so it proved, in a game made even more difficult in the humid conditions, as both sides were unable to be separated in the first quarter.

Old Bromsgrovians edged themselves in front thanks to the sharp shooting of Harriet Groucher, whilst the trio of Rebecca Alton, Maisie Cook and Helen Abbiss ensured that the Cannons’ defence was not breached.

The girls remained in front going into the final quarter, but were ultimately undone after the Fawns gained a second wind, going on to lose 33-35.

Old Bromsgrovians next face BJ Dappers on Monday (7pm) at Tudor Grange, hoping to condemn their opponents further at the bottom of the league with a win.

The club are on the hunt for a qualified netball umpire to support them throughout the Summer League campaign, and invite anyone interested to get in touch via the club’s Facebook page – ‘OB Netball (Bromsgrove)‘.
