New Year's Dismay for the Rouslers

BROMSGROVE Sporting had a New Year’s Day to forget as they suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Coleshill Town, losing ground on Peterborough Sports, whilst sustaining a number of suspected injuries.

The club announced on Wednesday that Will Shorrock is suspected to be out of action for between 6-8 weeks after separating his shoulder, whilst Jason Cowley suffered a groin injury and Mike McGrath with a back injury.

Sporting were unable to get up to speed as quickly as their hosts on the artificial surface, and it told as Joe Smith crashed a header against the bar from former Rouslers man Liam Molesworth’s corner.

It took until the 37th minute for the away side to register a shot on target, albeit a tame one as Richard Gregory sent a shot straight into Paul Hathaway’s gloves, moments before Shorrock’s nasty fall saw him leave the pitch and Jordan Nadat’s effort struck the bar before the interval.

Coleshill’s pressing game paid dividends with Bromsgrove allowed little room to pass at will, while Nadat continued to lay siege to the Bromsgrove goal with further efforts striking the post and forcing Jono Brown into action.

And just when Bromsgrove looked threatening after McGrath’s 25-yard effort was tipped over the bar, the hosts finally broke the deadlock.

Molesworth’s cross caused a fracas in the Sporting penalty area, falling to Connor Doyle who was on hand to convert the chance, four minutes later burying a venomous 25-yarder that nestled into the bottom corner.

Bromsgrove were undoubtedly rocked, and when Nadat sealed the game with a goal from the edge of the penalty area, it was curtains for the Rouslers.

Sporting now look ahead to Saturday’s fixture with Berkhamsted, who they host at the Victoria Ground (3pm), in the hope of making an immediate return to winning ways.
