New signing Jordan Jones relishing the challenge at Bromsgrove Sporting

JORDAN JONES says he is relishing the new challenge which lies ahead after agreeing to join Bromsgrove Sporting from Redditch United.

The former Kidderminster Harriers winger, who can also play as a right back, is Paul Smith’s first summer signing ahead of the Rouslers’ debut season in the Midland League Premier Division.

The 24-year-old is now looking forward to joining a squad which ended this season’s Division One campaign as ‘Invincibles’.

“I’m ready for the fresh challenge,” he said.

“Paul is a very ambitious manager and you can see the club has come on leaps and bounds under him – that’s just looking from the outside.

“Before I joined I spoke to Reece Hewitt, Ahmed Ali and Liam Spink who all raved about Sporting and the buzz surrounding the club.

“The crowds the club attracts for this level of football are ridiculous so it was a no-brainer to join.

“I’m looking forward to pre-season now and kicking on.

“I know Paul wants the lads in earlier than normal but I am all for that as I don’t like to sit around doing nothing.”

Jones has already set his target of trying to help Sporting fight for the title as well as guiding the club on a good cup run.

But having had Premier Division experience with Stourport Swifts, the former Studley man understands it’s going to be difficult.

“In that league anybody can beat anyone so the winner is always decided by who turns up on the day,” he said.

“Expectations from the fans will be to go up and I genuinely believe we can achieve that.

“It’s a competitive league but I am quietly confident.”

After seeing thousands of fans turn up to watch the history making FA Vase run where Smith’s men reached the semi-finals, Jones believes the supporters will play an important part in guiding Sporting to success.

“I will not have played in front of a huge crowd since I was at Kidderminster,” he added.

“Having a big crowd behind you makes the games feel even more proper and as a player that’s what you dream of.

“I have heard the Sporting fans like to travel in their numbers away from home too so they really are going to be our 12th man.

“The fans were a major part in my decision to drop down and join this sleeping giant of a club.

“When I saw the Vase run I was a little bit jealous but the other part of me wanted them to go on and win it.

“Hopefully I can be a part of something like that this season.”
