BROMSGROVE’S Men’s D team earned promotion without hitting a ball as their opponents Wall Heath C gave them a walkover and a maximum 14 points.

The result put them into second place in Division 7 just ahead of Hagley A and skipper Mel McGregor said they were relieved to get over the line.

“I’m glad we’re promoted,” McGregor said. “We were nip and tuck with Hagley all season and I expect they’ll be gutted when they hear what’s happened.

“All the team have worked hard and I’m sure we’ll be successful in Division Six.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday night saw three matches played in the gloom and damp as Bromsgrove look to get their summer season over by the end of August.

The Mixed C team defeated Inkberrow A 3-1 in Division Five, with Di Inchley and Trevor Errington producing some impressive performances. Husband and wife duo of Linda and John Casey beat the second pair 6-2, 6-1, but just lost out in a final set tie break in their last match.

Bromsgrove’s Men’s D team secured a comfortable mid-table position in Division Six after a thrilling 5-4 victory on sets against Boughton D, while a much-changed Men’s E team lost 5-1 to Pershore B.

Elsewhere, senior Bromsgrove players played a key role in the Hereford and Worcester over 75 match against Norfolk at Manor Park in Malvern.

Regular squad members Bob Hunt and Brian Barton were joined by Roger Colley in place of the unwell John Gilder to make up the majority of the team.

Some strong performances from the Bromsgrove players saw Hereford and Worcester record an impressive 4-0 victory over the visitors.
