BROMSGROVE Tennis Club had a mixed weekend, with wins and losses for the men’s and women’s sides in the Hereford and Worcester Winter League.
The Ladies C team produced a dominant display over Kidderminster in Division Five East, romping to a 4-0 victory.
Steph Armstrong and Lorraine Russell recorded a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win over pair Lisa Wright and Michelle Emerson to get the ball rolling for Bromsgrove, before Isabelle O’Connor and Beccy Smith secured a comfortable 6-0, 6-1 victory against Kate Wragg and Louise Guise to extend the lead for the club.
Armstrong and Russell were involved in a close three-setter, but came out 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 winners against Wragg and Guise, before O’Connor and Smith downed Wright and Emerson 6-1, 6-2 to wrap up a victory which keeps them top of the table.
In the men’s Division Eight East, Bromsgrove D were edged out 4-6 in sets by David Lloyd Worcester C.
Alistair Liddle and Tom Round secured an opening 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win, before David Brace and Brian Taylor went down 3-6, 1-6 by Sam Carter and Paul Roberts.
The same Worcester duo defeated Liddle and Round 1-6, 2-6, before Brace and Taylor won 7-6 6-3 with a closing victory to draw the game 2-2 overall, but just lose out on the extra sets conceded.
Bromsgrove B were disappointed, however, to lose 4-0 in their trip to leaders Beckford. They remain second in the table.
Elsewhere in the same division, Barnt Green B overcame hosts Bewdley B to remain in fifth place in the standings.
Chris Linsell and Hammad Ahmad defeated Jason Curtis and Michael Rosoman 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 for the opening win before Maksis Dunkers and David Mullard’s 6-3, 6-2 loss meant the scores were levelled.
But their three-setter win against Curtis and Rosoman 6-3, 5-7, 2-6, finished by Linsell and Ahmad’s 6-7, 2-6 win secured a 3-1 overall win for Barnt Green, and an 8-2 win in sets.
