MANAGER Brendan Kelly says the experience of new signing Kieren Westwood will be a big plus in Bromsgrove Sporting’s push for back-to-back promotions.
Wide player Westwood had signed from Premier Division South high-fliers Stratford Town and made his Rouslers debut as a substitute in Tuesday’s win against Didcot.
He will be pushing for a first start tomorrow (Saturday) when Sporting head to fourth-bottom Dunstable Town. Westwood, who also played for Stourbridge and Stafford Rangers, has more than 100 appearances at Step Three.
“Westy is a signing I’m very pleased with – he suits the way we play and is eager to help us progress up the leagues,” said Kelly.
“It’s testament to how positive we are in what we do in that we can attract players from a higher level.”
Westwood can play on the left wing and is seen as an ideal replacement for the injured Will Shorrock.
Shorrock is due to undergo shoulder surgery today (Friday), which will keep him sidelined until the end of February. The wideman has been out of action since the New Year’s Day loss to Coleshill Town.
Meanwhile, the Rouslers’ end to 2018 has earned them the award as Southern League Division One Central Team of the Month for December.
Sporting went through the month unbeaten. They defeated league leaders Peterborough Sports 4-3, Sutton Coldfield Town 2-1 and added a 4-1 home thrashing of Dunstable, alongside a 4-0 away victory at Kempston Rovers and a 1-1 draw against Cambridge City.
The club will receive an engraved glass memento and a cheque for pitch maintenance as their prize.
