Kelly content with squad, but could yet add one final signing

BRENDAN Kelly says his final squad for the season kick-off next month will be decided by the end of the week, ahead of the Rouslers’ first pre-season friendly against Littleton on Tuesday (7.45pm).

The Sporting boss is content with the squad now at his disposal and has been pleased with the early signs from training, but admitted that one more signing could yet be added.

“There won’t be any departures, no one’s expressed a desire to move on or ask for a new challenge,” said Kelly.

“There’s possibly one more signing that I’m looking at, but I’m pretty happy with the squad.

“I’m a big fan of continuity and working with the bulk of the team from last season, instead of starting over and working with entirely fresh blood.

“Unless someone came up who could make a difference, then it’s unlikely we’ll be adding many more players.”

Kelly has been left impressed by the first few training sessions since the Rouslers returned for pre-season, and says the new signings have already made themselves at home in their new surroundings.

“There’s always room for improvement, but most of the players came back in decent shape,” he said.

“All modern footballers look after themselves these days, from Premier League down to non-league.

“We’ve had over 20 in the sessions so far, so there’s been a good turnout.

“The new lads have been brilliant, they’ve settled in really well – most of them have played together and know each other already.

“It’s like that on the non-league circuit, a lot of them have come into contact before so there’s been no issues.”

Currently training with Bromsgrove’s first-team are two trialists and a handful of under-18 members, with Kelly challenging those players to stand out and impress in the build-up to the new campaign.

“We’ll be trimming the numbers by the end of the week, we’ve got a few of the under-18s training with us and a couple of trialists who we’ll be having a look at,” he said.

“It’s up to the trialists to create a deal for themselves by impressing me and Andy in the next few games.”

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove are set to learn their first opponents in this season’s FA Cup when the preliminary rounds are drawn on Friday.
