Bromsgrove Sporting skipper Craig Jones writes for The Standard in his weekly column, providing his thoughts on last weekend’s thriller in Yaxley, and looks ahead to hosting Bedford Town on Saturday.
Saturday we made the long journey to Yaxley, a team who are much better than their league position shows.
After a poor start, we came alive and ran out comfortable winners in the end, albeit after some sticky moments.
Three points and six goals on the road is great at any level, but the goals we conceded were definitely avoidable.
We are now 17 points clear of sixth, four clear of second and one point behind top. Teams have got games in hand but anyone will tell you they’d prefer points on the board.
We have put ourselves in a good position, especially when you consider that this is our first season at step 4, having been promoted in our first season at step 5. It’s important we keep pushing to finish as high as we can.
That starts with a tough home game against Bedford on Saturday. We owe ourselves one really after the poor showing at their place earlier in the season.
A strange game where we could’ve been three or four up before conceding twice just before half time. What followed was unacceptable so we will look to put that right.
I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing a packed out Shed End at the Vic.
