JOEL Kettle scored twice as Bromsgrove Sporting secured their first league win in almost two months with a 2-0 victory against Barwell at the Victoria Ground.

The defender struck either side of half-time to secure a first win for new boss Gavin Hurren and end Sporting’s six-game winless run in the league.

Victory for the Rouslers means they are now 13th in the Southern Premier League Central table – three points clear of the relegation zone.

Both teams traded chances in the opening few minutes before the visitors should have taken the lead when Ben Stephens fired wide when one-on-one.

Sporting made Barwell pay for that missed opportunity when Kettle finished from close range on 25 minutes after some fine work on the wing from Jamie Molyneux.

The away side spurned another golden chance before the break when Tristan Dunkley was sent through before shooting wide.

Kettle had a header saved in the second period before he eventually did double his tally on 73 minutes.

Walsall loanee Joe Willis delivered a corner that was emphatically powered home by Kettle to all but secure the points and a much-needed victory.

Rouslers keeper Aaron Clayton made two late saves to deny the luckless Stephens as Sporting held on to claim a vital three points.

Sporting are next in action tonight (Tuesday, November 23) when they travel to St Ives Town with kick-off at 7:45pm at Westwood Road.
