JACK Newell’s wonder goal sent Bromsgrove Sporting into the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup as they beat Welwyn Garden City at Victoria Park.

Newell netted on 50 minutes when he unleashed a stunning 30-yard volley into the top corner to send the Sporting faithful delirious.

However, the game was overshadowed by a 23-minute stoppage in the first-half when Sporting’s Kieran Dunbar and Welwyn’s Callum Taylor suffered serious injuries when competing in a fifty-fifty challenge.

The result means Sporting are in the hat for the fourth qualifying round draw which takes place at 3:15pm this afternoon.

Victory came at a cost to the Roulsers though as Dunbar suffered a fractured fibula after just four minutes when coming together with Taylor who is thought to have sustained muscle damage.

After a 23-minute delay as both players received treatment – the first-half petered out as the two teams collected themselves following the stoppage.

Sporting kicked into life after the break when Newell’s unstoppable effort found the top corner and would prove decisive in ensuring Bromsgrove’s safe passage to the next round.

Jourdain Masidi impressed again for the home side and almost doubled Sporting’s lead only to see his effort well-saved by Welwyn keeper Charlie Crowley.

Then, it was Nathan Hayward’s turn to be denied when his attempt was blocked from close range before the visitors went close to an equalsier through Carl Mensah who volleyed over from inside the box.

Late efforts from Will Shorrock and Jack Hallahan failed to trouble the scoreline as Brendan Kelly’s side held on to secure a massive win that extends their run in the FA Cup.
