BROMSGROVE Sporting moved another step closer to securing promotion from Midland League Division One with a 5-2 victory over Coventry Copsewood.

On the day of Paul Smith’s 100th league game in charge of Sporting, things got off to a bad start as Dave Akinuli gave the visitors a surprise lead after nine minutes.

But just moments later it was 1-1 as an unfortunate Matthew Burt headed Sam Wills’ corner into his own net before a Jason Cowley penalty two minutes before the break gave the Rouslers a 2-1 lead.

Just under ten minutes after the interval it was 3-1 as Luke Edwards poked home from close range then impact substitute Chris Lloyd scored with his first touch, rifling an effort from 25 yards out beyond rooted Copsewood keeper Dale O’Donnell just after the hour mark.

Alex Andrews then pulled one back for the visitors following some slack Sporting defending but just a minute later Cowley grabbed his second and the Rouslers’ fifth goal of the game as his powerful shot from the edge of the area found the top left-hand corner.
