TIM Flowers secured a first league win in his second stint in charge of Bromsgrove Sporting after the Rouslers won 1-0 against Barwell.

A late goal from Billy Shaw settled the game at the Victoria Ground as Sporting ended a run of eight games without a victory.

The result means Bromsgrove sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Prior to kick-off, Sporting chairman Rod Brown presented captain Aaron Roberts with a framed shirt as the defender racked up his 350th appearance for the club.

The Rouslers went close early on as Luke Benbow saw his header from Jack Kelly’s cross tipped onto the crossbar by Barwell goalkeeper Finn Osborn.

In a first half of few chances, Tyrone Lewthwaite had a shot deflected wide as the first period ended goalless.

Osborn came to Barwell’s rescue again after the break as he tipped Benbow’s dipping free-kick from just outside the penalty area behind for a corner.

Sporting hit the woodwork a second time when Jack Newell drove a shot against the post after Rory Brown denied Jevin Seaton at the other end.

However, the Rouslers eventually broke the deadlock six minutes from time as Shaw finished Theo Robinson’s pass from six-yards out.

Barwell threatened to equalise at the death but Sporting blocked Emmanuel Nnaji’s goalbound effort to triumph in their first home game of the New Year.

The win also marked Flowers’ first as Sporting boss since he returned to the club in December last year.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Stamford on Saturday, January 31 with kick-off at 3pm at the Zeeco Stadium.
