BROMSGROVE SPORTING were beaten 1-0 at home by relegation rivals Nuneaton Borough to leave the Rouslers just one place above the drop zone.

Nuneaton substitute Anthony Dwyer scored the game’s only goal as Sporting were made to pay for a host of missed chances at the Victoria Ground.

And the result means Sporting have dropped to 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table, just one place and four points outside of the relegation zone.

With both teams desperate to take all three points, the first half proved a cagey affair with Jonathan Letford going closest for Sporting when he headed over from inside the penalty area.

At the other end, Borough’s Luke Benbow volleyed over from a promising position before Greg Kaziboni had an effort blocked.

Bromsgrove’s best chance fell to Mitchel Candlin early in the second period only for the forward to shoot straight at Nuneaton goalkeeper Tony Breeden when one-on-one from Will Shorrock’s pass.

Midfielder Shorrock then had chances of his own to break the deadlock before he delivered a tantalising ball into the box that was missed by everybody in Sporting colours and well claimed by Breeden.

And Nuneaton then snatched the points on 80 minutes when Dwyer slotted past Aaron Clayton from close range from Charlie Dowd’s pass.

Sporting are next in action away at Tamworth on Saturday, March 5 with kick-off at 3pm at the Lamb Ground.
