BROMSGROVE Sporting were knocked out of the FA Trophy after the Rouslers were thrashed 3-0 by Northern Premier League Midlands Division side Chasetown.

Despite playing one step above their opponents, Sporting produced a dour performance and were punished by a lively Chasetown side at the Victoria Ground.

And the visitors from Staffordshire took the lead on six minutes when Oli Hayward finished at the back post after Mike McGrath had cleared Luke Yates’ initial effort off the line before Ollie Taylor saved from Mitch Botfield.

The Rouslers remained pinned inside their own half as Taylor superbly flicked Yates’ effort over the crossbar as Chasetown attempted to double their lead.

Thomas Baillie’s side created chances through Dan Sweeney and Ryan Edmunds with visiting keeper Curtis Pond equal to the duo’s efforts.

And Chasetown eventually extended their lead on 35 minutes when Jack Langston dinked the ball over Taylor from Yates’s perfectly-weighted pass.

Sporting went close to halving the deficit when Sweeney slid the ball past Pond only for Tom Unwin to clear the striker’s shot off the line.

The visitors ended the half on top as both Joey Butlin and Langston almost put Chasetown out of sight before the interval.

Bromsgrove missed a golden chance to bring the hosts back into the contest when substitute Zidan Sutherland shot wide when clean through on goal despite Chasetown keeper Pond having slipped.

And Mikey Taylor forced Pond into a save soon after only for Langston to volley past Taylor from Butlin’s pass as the visitors compounded Sporting’s misery with a third goal.

Bromsgrove are next in action TONIGHT (Tuesday, October 11) at home to Tamworth with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Victoria Ground.
