BROMSGROVE Sporting slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw against basement club AFC Rushden and Diamonds as the Rouslers winless run was extended to three matches.

Sporting fell behind to Will Glennon’s penalty just past the half-hour mark before Jack Tolley levelled in the second half at the Victoria Ground.

The result means Sporting sit 12th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

And the home side almost took the lead when Brandon Smalley picked up the ball on the right-hand side and played a short pass to Conor Tee who his shot towards the near post tipped behind by Rushden goalkeeper Dean Snedker.

Sporting stopper Ollie Taylor made a similarly impressive save at the other end as he stretched to tip Jenson Cooper’s volley over the crossbar.

However, Rushden took the lead on 32 minutes when Mikel Brown was penalised for handball and Glennon sent Taylor the wrong way from the penalty spot as he fired the ball into the roof of the net.

And the visitors had a chance to double their lead before the interval only for Andy Mandjoba to shoot straight at Taylor as he broke through on goal.

Sporting improved after the break and equalised on 62 minutes when substitute Tolley tapped in from close range after Rushden failed to deal with Mo Sebbeh’s cross.

And Sebbeh then tried his luck from 25-yards out as Snedker made a great save to his right to to palm the ball behind for a corner with the Rouslers unable to find a winner.

Sporting are next in action at home to Mickleover on Saturday, March 25 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
