FOOTBALL - Sporting edged out by Rushall

BROMSGROVE Sporting saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end after the Rouslers were edged out 1-0 by promotion-chasing Rushall Olympic.

Sporting were undone by Will Shorrock’s early goal in a back and forth contest with Mike McGrath’s side unable to find an equaliser at the Victoria Ground.

The result means Sporting sit 11th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

Bromsgrove were without player-manager McGrath and Ammar Dyer through suspension as Dom Perkins and Lewis Wright came into the side.

However, Rushall made the most of a strong start to score the game’s decisive goal on 16 minutes when former Sporting man Shorrock fired home a deflected effort that left Rouslers keeper Ollie Taylor with no chance.

Sporting had the better of the play for the remainder of the half as Tom Taylor hit the woodwork with a header before Ryan Edmunds’ two attempts went narrowly over the bar.

And Bromsgrove hit the woodwork again late in the second period when Miro Pais’s free-kick hit the bar.

The game ended with unsavoury scenes in injury time as Rushall’s Kieran Cook was shown a straight red card for a rash tackle on Pais before a melee developed and Olympic’s Richard Batchelor was also sent off for what appeared to be a stamp on Sporting’s Joe Curtis.

Sporting are next in action away at St Ives Town on Saturday, December 10 with kick-off at 3pm at Westwood Road.
