BROMSGROVE Sporting are now one point away from mathematical safety after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Stratford Town on Easter Monday.

Matthew Barnes-Homer opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 27 minutes only for Brennan Denness-Barrett to equalise for the visitors on 37 minutes at the Victoria Ground.

That came after a 2-1 defeat away at AFC Rushden and Diamonds last weekend with Jamie Molyneux scoring a late consolation after goals from Will Jones and Connor Furlong.

Following their final home game of the season against Stratford, skipper Joel Kettle said: “It’s a big club and I’ve enjoyed parts of this season, we’ve had some difficult periods, it’s been a frustrating and long season at times but I enjoy playing for Bromsgrove.

“[Being captain] gave me an impetus to step in and be more of a role model and a leader in this squad and it’s a proud moment to captain the boys.”

And the club also announced the Fans Player of the Season which was awarded to Nathan Hayward with the midfielder having played 46 games in all competitions this campaign which amounts to more than 4,000 minutes on the pitch scoring eight goals.

The results leave Sporting in 16th place in the Southern League Premier Central table, three points clear of the final potential relegation spot with one match left to play.

And the Rouslers finish their season with a trip to Hitchin Town on Saturday, April 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Top Field and know that safety will be guaranteed if they avoid defeat.
