BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Scott Adey-Linforth felt he and his players ‘let the club down’ after suffering a record derby defeat against Redditch United.

The Rouslers lost 3-0 against the Reds at the Valley Stadium to suffer their heaviest-ever derby defeat against Redditch.

That came after a 3-0 home defeat against Needham Market at the Victoria Ground.

The results leave Sporting in the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone.

And Adey-Linforth felt the performance against Redditch was his side’s worst since he took charge of the club in November last year.

Adey-Linforth said: “The mistakes that we’re making are criminal. I don’t think we’re doing the basics right.

“I can only say sorry to the supporters. We were a million miles away. Redditch were brilliant, credit to them.

“We’ve let the club down. It’s definitely the worst game I’ve been part of since I’ve been in charge.

“We weren’t at it. There was a serious lack of quality all over the pitch.

“When you’re struggling to make four or five-yard passes, it’s going to be tough.

“We certainly won’t be seeing that performance again. That’s the worst [performance] since I’ve been here.

“We have to stick together. We’ll be in the bottom half of the table if we perform like that in every game.

“It wasn’t good enough. I’m gutted for the club. I’m not a happy man at the moment.

“The lads are hurting. They know it’s not acceptable. Their standards are better than that.”

Sporting slipped to a seventh successive derby defeat against Redditch on an afternoon to forget for the Rouslers.

Redditch broke the deadlock on 29 minutes when Liam Loughlan flicked the ball into the path of Reece Flanagan who forced the ball home from close range following a scramble in the box.

And United doubled their lead four minutes into injury time at the end of the first half when Flanagan’s initial effort deflected into the path of Matty Warburton who coolly found the net via the aid of the post.

Redditch extended their lead just four minutes after half time as Danny King finished on the rebound after Adam Harrison kept out Alex Cameron’s initial effort.

And Sporting had striker Luke Benbow sent off on 76 minutes when he picked up a second yellow card after he caught Aaron Roberts in the face with his boot when competing for a loose ball.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Evesham United in the FA Cup on Saturday, August 30 with kick-off at 3pm at the Spiers and Hartwell Stadium.
