TOM Hill’s hat-trick helped Bromsgrove Rovers AFC reach the quarter-finals of the Bill Hill Cup with a comprehensive 6-1 win against Sutton United (C).

Despite falling behind to an early goal, Hill levelled the game and later extended the home side’s lead after Reiss Robinson put Rovers ahead at South Bromsgrove High School.

Hill completed his treble early in the second period before an own goal and a stunning strike from Jake Evans sealed a resounding victory for Rovers against their lower league opponents.

Birmingham and District League Division Four leaders Sutton took the lead on nine minutes as Lee Thorne clipped the ball past home goalkeeper George Harris with the outside of his right boot.

However, Rovers drew level five minutes later when Hill intercepted a pass on the edge of the Sutton penalty area and coolly found the net.

And Bromsgrove completed the turnaround on 18 minutes as Robinson headed home from Ash Pardoe’s initial header.

The home side stretched their lead on 29 minutes when Hill grabbed his second of the game, stooping low to head home a cross from the right from close range.

And both Pardoe and Evans then saw superb long range efforts well saved by the visiting goalkeeper before the break.

However, Hill completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half with a simple finish after good work down the left from Pardoe.

And Sutton put through their own net on 55 minutes after a ball bounced off a defender and went into the goal following a scramble in the six-yard box.

Rovers rounded off the scoring in style on 61 minutes as Evans fired a thunderous effort past the helpless Sutton keeper from 25-yards out.

Bromsgrove face Division Four strugglers Village (C) in the quarter-finals on Saturday, December 9 with kick-off at 1.30pm at Aston University’s Great Barr campus.
