FOOTBALL - McGrath to remain Sporting manager as club appoint new head coach

BROMSGROVE Sporting have announced that player-manager Mike McGrath will remain in the role for the 2023/24 campaign.

The Rouslers finished 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table last season, just one place above the relegation zone.

McGrath replaced Thomas Baillie in the Victoria Ground dugout in October last year with the club 10th in the table at the time after the latter was sacked following a heavy 7-1 home defeat against Leiston.

And McGrath will be supported by newly-appointed head coach Craig Nicholls who was replaced as joint manager of Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side Halesowen Town in March.

Alongside Martin Sockett, Nicholls helped guide The Yeltz into a strong league position before the pair were relieved of their duties and replaced by former Sporting boss Paul Smith.

Nicholls will retain his role as Halesowen’s education academy boss and holds a UEFA A Licence with more than 15 years experience in the game.
