SCOTT Adey-Linforth praised his side’s ‘unbelievable character’ after Bromsgrove Sporting scored an injury-time free-kick to win 3-2 against St Ives Town.

A stunning effort from Carter Lycett stole the points for Sporting after the Rouslers had surrendered a two-goal lead at Westwood Road.

Lycett opened the scoring early on before Theo Robinson doubled Sporting’s lead on the quarter-hour mark.

St Ives cut the deficit courtesy of Josh Allen’s goal before Will Glennon drew the home side level early in the second period.

However, Lycett’s free-kick five minutes into injury time ensured Sporting returned to winning ways.

The result means Bromsgrove sit 14th in the Southern League Premier Central table, eight points above the relegation zone.

And Adey-Linforth praised his side’s character after the Rouslers snatched the points at the death.

Adey-Linforth said: “We’ve had some unbelievable moments since I’ve been in the job and that’s another one.

“We were absolutely brilliant in the first half but we made a couple of errors and it completely flipped in the second half, they absolutely dominated us.

“It was a smash and grab but we probably didn’t deserve it but it was a hell of a strike and worthy enough to win any game.

“The lads have shown unbelievable character to go and take three points.”

Sporting broke the deadlock on seven minutes when Lycett’s cross from the left looped over St Ives goalkeeper Daniel Wilks.

And veteran striker Robinson doubled the away side’s lead on 15 minutes as he turned home Lycett’s low ball in from the left from close range.

St Ives halved the deficit on 28 minutes when Allen finished a square ball into an empty net after the home side pounced on a loose pass and beat the offside trap.

And the hosts equalised four minutes after half time as Glennon headed in a cross from the right.

However, after holding onto a point for the majority of the second half, Lycett curled a free-kick into the net off the underside of the crossbar from 25-yards out deep into injury time.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Banbury United on Saturday, March 22 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
