HOPWOOD Swifts suffered a further blow to their fading title hopes after they lost 4-1 to mid-table Hampton Sports, writes Neil Gordon.

Swifts conceded four goals for the third time in four Birmingham and District Football League Division One games, and only had Calum Harper’s consolation strike to show for their visit to Field Lane.

Hopwood remain second on 23 points, five points behind leaders Sutton United, who now have two games in hand following the postponement of their league fixture at Silhill.

For seventh-placed Hampton, Nathan Jhass, Jay Tyler, Louis Brown and Adam Priestly were all on the scoresheet as Sports played their first league fixture since October after a run of 14 cup games.

Hampton next travel to Bromsgrove Rovers AFC, who remain second from bottom of Division One on four points from five games, with the Greens now having as many as nine games in hand.

And Bromsgrove now commence a run of seven Division One fixtures in as many weeks, when they play the first of three home matches against Hampton, Hopwood Swifts and Kings Heath Rangers respectively, as they seek to move up the table.

Hopwood Swifts play FC Stratford at Spring Lane on Saturday, March 21. Kick-off is 2.30pm and admission free.
