FOOTBALL - Hamilton brace helps Alvechurch end five-game winless run against promotion-chasing Rushall

TYRELL HAMILTON’s second-half brace helped Alvechurch on their way to an impressive 3-1 win at home to Rushall Olympic to end their opponents 15-game unbeaten run in the league.

Hamilton scored twice in the space of 15 second-half minutes to wrap up the win after Tom Solanke had opened the scoring at the beginning of the second period at Lye Meadow.

The result ends Alvechurch’s five-game winless run and means they remain sixth in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point outside of the play-off places albeit having played more games than the teams above them.

And after an uneventful first-half, Church took the lead on 48 minutes when Solanke found space in the Rushall defence before calmly finishing past visiting goalkeeper Thomas Palmer.

Alvechurch soon doubled their lead when Hamilton fired beyond Palmer from Zak Brown’s pass on 57 minutes before striking again on 72 minutes when he finished the rebound after Danny Waldron’s shot was saved onto the bar.

Rushall scored a consolation goal on 85 minutes when Rackeem Reid found the corner from Ben Usher-Shipway’s pass but it proved too little too late.

Alvechurch are next in action in a friendly against Coventry City under-23’s on Monday, March 7 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
