JAANAI Gordon’s second-half goal rescued a point for 10-man Alvechurch in a 1-1 home draw against Kettering Town.

Gordon’s fine finish drew Church level on 71 minutes after Luca Miller opened the scoring fro Kettering while Mackenzie Lamb saw red just past the half-hour mark at Lye Meadow.

The result means Alvechurch sit 15th in the Southern League Premier Central table, three points above the relegation zone.

Church keeper Brad Foster made an excellent save low down to his right to tip Daniel Jarvis’s shot around the post for a corner.

However, the game turned on 31 minutes when Lamb received a straight red card for a lunging tackle on Kettering captain Rhys Sharpe.

And the visitors took the lead one minute later as Miller curled a shot into the bottom right corner from 20-yards out.

Foster then did well to push Thomas Scott’s effort to safety after the Kettering man sent a dipping half-volley towards the left corner of the goal.

Church improved after the break and equalised with 19 minutes left to play as Gordon lashed fired a powerful effort into the roof of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Home goalkeeper Foster made an excellent stop to keep the scores level, reacting quickly to turn Miller’s shot away after the ball travelled through a crowd of bodies.

Kettering keeper William Johnson then only received a yellow card for catching the ball outside of his penalty area as the game finished all square.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Leiston on Tuesday, November 28 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
