JAMES Fry hopes his side can become more of a threat in the final third after claiming an impressive 1-0 win against in-form Royston Town.

Church moved further clear of the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone thanks to Jaanai Gordon’s goal on 71 minutes at Lye Meadow.

And after claiming back-to-back home wins for the first time since September, Alvechurch boss Fry hopes the result and performance will be a benchmark for his side.

Fry said: “It has to be the same again [against Berkhamsted], it’s the foundation of every performance at this level, we’re still working to be more of a threat in the final third, we have to add that to our game.

“It wasn’t the best game to watch, we were in control throughout, we dealt with their threat really well and nullified them, we defended our box really well.

“There are so many in the group who are growing in belief and confidence, taking on board the information and what the game needs to look like, they’re getting the rewards at the moment.

“It was the best we’ve moved the ball for a little while, especially in the first half, we need to manage those moments, we can be a bit overconfident at times.”

The game’s only goal came 19 minutes from time as Gordon controlled a high ball before lashing an effort into the left corner of the goal from 15-yards out.

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Berkhamsted on Saturday, February 3 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
