JAMES Fry insists the league is Alvechurch’s priority after his side booked their place in the Worcestershire Senior Cup final with a penalty shootout win against Redditch United in midweek.

Church secured their place in the Senior Cup final with a 4-1 victory in the shootout at Valley Stadium following a goalless 90 minutes.

However, Alvechurch boss Fry insists the league remains the club’s top priority with Church 12 points clear of the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone.

Fry said: “The priority is the league but it’s good to get to a final, we’ve built on the performance we put in here in the league, the icing on the cake is that we’re through to a final.

“We’ve kept a clean sheet at a place which is really difficult to come, they’re a good team and find ways to win but we stayed disciplined and got the job done.

“The boys are learning, we had to make changes, the schedule is tough but it didn’t affect us and we had a plan for various different situation and the boys listened and executed it.

“The priority has to be the league to finish the season strongly, we’ve still got work to do in the league, we’re not fully out of the water, we’re in a much better position than we were.

“We want to get as high up the table as possible, that’s the priority and we’ve got a cup final to look forward to during that period.”

Alvechurch are next in action at home to Stamford on Saturday, February 17 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
