A FIRST-HALF blitz helped Bromsgrove Sporting to a comfortable 4-1 home win against a young Solihull Moors XI in their latest pre-season outing.
Sporting struck four times inside the first half-hour at the Victoria Ground as Billy Shaw, Nick Clayton-Phillips, Aksum White and Luke Benbow all found the net.
Moors responded in the second half as Charlie Footes denied the Rouslers a clean sheet.
The win provides a much-needed boost to Scott Adey-Linforth’s side who had lost four pre-season games in a row prior to victory against Moors.
And Sporting made the perfect start as Shaw broke the deadlock after just 41 seconds when he headed home Clayton-Phillips’ corner.
Clayton-Phillips then saw an effort saved by the Moors goalkeeper.
However, Clayton-Phillips eventually doubled Sporting’s lead on 19 minutes when he latched onto a long ball before driving into the box and finding the net.
The Moors goalkeeper then denied Benbow from range before the Rouslers striker teed up White to extend the home side’s advantage on 24 minutes.
And Benbow all but ended the game as a contest on 29 minutes with an effort that looped over the Moors goalkeeper.
Full-back Jack Kelly saw his header fingertipped behind while Shaw spurned two chances to stretch Sporting’s lead before the break.
Moors scored a consolation goal on 56 minutes when Footes poked home.
The Rouslers almost added a fifth goal late on only for Benbow to see his curling effort come back off the post.
Bromsgrove finish their pre-season schedule against Hungerford Town on Saturday, August 2 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
