DANNY Waldron scored twice as Alvechurch ended their home campaign with a 2-1 win against Royston Town to move into the top half of the table.

Waldron scored either side of half time to put Church in command before substitute Thomas Newman netted a late penalty for Royston at Lye Meadow.

The result means Alvechurch sit 11th in the Southern League Premier Central table with just one match left to play.

Ian Long’s side took the lead on 28 minutes when Waldron received Jed Abbey’s pass and curled a fine effort into the left corner from the right-hand side of the penalty area.

And Waldron doubled his tally on 48 minutes when a shot deflected into his path at the back post and the striker guided a fist time shot past Dimitrios Kyriatzis.

However, Royston halved the deficit on 82 minutes when Newman squeezed the ball past Harvey Randle from the spot after Church were penalised for handball.

Alvechurch finish the season away at Rushall Olympic on Saturday, April 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Dales Lane.
