HARRY Williams scored his second goal in three games as Alvechurch claimed an impressive point away at title-chasing Leiston.
Williams opened the scoring after just 11 minutes before William Davies levelled for the home side just past the half-hour mark at Victory Road.
The result means Church sit 19th in the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone on goal difference with three games in hand on the team above them.
Ian Long handed debuts to recent loan signings Remi Walker and Abel Alabi as Church made two changes from the defeat to high-flying Nuneaton.
Leiston had the ball in the net early on only for the goal to be ruled out for offside whilst at the other end Jamie Soule’s effort was expertly turned behind by home goalkeeper Samuel Donkin.
And Church took the lead soon after when Williams met Tom Edge’s corner with a bullet header from the edge of the penalty area and found the far corner.
The visitors almost doubled their lead when Jed Abbey’s shot was beaten away by Donkin only for Leiston to equalise on 32 minutes against the run of play when Davies turned home Ben Fowkes’ driven free-kick from close range.
And Church somehow went into the break level as Brad Burton cleared off the line following a scramble in the box before Rossi Jarvis fired high and wide.
Long’s side were forced into another goalline clearance in the second period as Abbey dealt with a flicked effort in a resolute defensive display from front to back.
Abbey then saw a free-kick easily saved by Donkin from 25-yards out before a third goalline clearance in stoppage time ensured Church went home with a share of the spoils.
Alvechurch are next in action at home to local rivals Bromsgrove Sporting TONIGHT (Tuesday, February 14) with kick-off at 7.45pm at Lye Meadow.
