CATSHILL under-16’s finished their league season unbeaten following a final day win against closest challengers South Redditch Eagles.

The team dropped just two points all season, led by team managers Martyn Roberts and Dax Earles, winning 17 of their 18 league matches to finish 14 points clear of South Redditch in second.

And Roberts heaped praise on his players following a memorable campaign.

Roberts said: “The season has been phenomenal, I’ve been in grassroots football for 20 years and I’ve never had a season like this before, it’s unheard of in my experience.

“The lads have just done us so proud, we finished fifth last year, the change in the team spirit and our approach to training has just been phenomenal, to finish the season unbeaten is amazing.

“We’ve played Division One and Two teams in the cup which we’ve beaten, we played the second team in the top division in the semi-final and lost but we held our own.

“The team have never progressed that far in the cup ever, to get to the semi-final stage is a massive achievement, it’s just been amazing.

“Without the parents none of this would work and the players deserve recognition for their hard work and commitment this season.”

Catshill stormed to the Central Warwickshire Youth League Division Four under-16 title after winning their first 16 matches of the season.

The team eventually saw their remarkable winning run halted following a 2-2 draw with Solihull Moors Foundation but won 5-3 against South Redditch on the final day to finish the season on a high.

Catshill also reached the semi-finals of the County Cup where they lost 3-1 to eventual winners West Hagley, beating Division One and Two teams en route to the last four.
