BROMSGROVE Sporting suffered a fourth straight pre-season defeat after losing 1-0 against West Bromwich Albion under-21s.

A second-half goal from Donte Ranger condemned the Rouslers to another pre-season defeat at the Victoria Ground.

Sporting have now lost four successive friendlies against Coleshill Town, Sporting Khalsa, Birmingham City under-21s and West Brom under-21s.

The two teams traded chances early on as Ollie Bostock sent an effort wide at one end while Luke Benbow fired over the crossbar at the other.

Baggies youngster Akeel Higgins then found the side netting from inside the box in a half of few chances.

West Brom goalkeeper Joe Wallis kept the scores level after the break as he made a one-handed save to keep out Benbow’s low effort from distance.

However, Albion responded with a chance of their own as Torin Ntege fired straight at Sporting stopper Charlie McNamara.

And the visitors broke the deadlock soon after on 66 minutes when Ranger rose highest to loop a header into the net.

Ranger went close again moments later as his effort trickled past the post.

Sporting’s best chance to draw level saw Wallis tip Benbow’s header onto the crossbar from Jack Kelly’s cross.

Bromsgrove continue their pre-season schedule against Solihull Moors on Tuesday, July 29 with kick-off at 7pm at the Victoria Ground.
