FOOTBALL - Bromsgrove Sporting suffer first defeat under new boss Flowers at Berkhamsted

TIM Flowers insists his Bromsgrove Sporting side need to cut out individual errors after the Rouslers slipped to a 2-1 defeat at struggling Berkhamsted.

Mistakes at the back allowed Max Bustamante and Tom Newman to put the home side in command before Billy Shaw scored a stunning consolation goal for Sporting at Broadwater.

And, after tasting defeat for the first time since his appointment as Sporting boss, Flowers is expecting a tough test against league leaders Needham Market this weekend.

Flowers said: “It was a bit of a war of attrition on a difficult surface, the two goals we gave away are abject at any level, you cannot make mistakes like that in the middle of your defence and expect to get away with it.

“We’ve conceded three goals against Berkhamsted and every single one of them has been a calamitous individual error, that erases and eradicates everything they’ve done.

“We cannot make individual errors like that and expect to win football matches, no one goes out and means to make a mistake.

“Needham are top of the league in the middle of March for a reason, they’re clearly a good side, they’ve got pace and counter attack quickly.”

Berkhamsted took the lead on 48 minutes when David Solademi tripped Bustamante in the box and the latter picked himself up to send Ollie Taylor the wrong way from the penalty spot.

And the home side all but sealed their first home win of the season on 80 minutes as Newman finished into an empty net from Bustamante’s square ball after a mix-up in the Sporting defence.

Rouslers substitute Shaw reduced the deficit deep into injury time with a fine strike into the bottom right corner from 25-yards out.

The result means Sporting sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Bromsgrove are next in action at home to league leaders Needham Market on Saturday, March 23 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
