BROMSGROVE Sporting scored two late goals to stun title-chasing Spalding United and claim a 2-0 victory in a boost to the club’s survival hopes.

Late strikes from substitutes Luke Benbow and Shay Willock saw the Rouslers end a run of five games without a win at the Sir Halley Stewart Field.

The result means Bromsgrove sit 17th in the Southern League Premier Central table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Spalding went close early on as Yusifu Ceesay headed a cross from the right narrowly wide at the back post from close range.

And the home side saw another chance go begging as Dion Sembie-Ferris lashed a bouncing ball out of the ground following a corner from the right.

Sporting spurned a golden chance to take the lead at the other end when Jack Kelly somehow headed Kian Ryley’s cross from the right over the bar from point-blank range at the back post.

Spalding almost broke the deadlock after the break as Sembie-Ferris fired a low effort from 20-yards out inches past the post with Sporting goalkeeper Rory Brown rooted to the spot.

The home side could not find a way through a resolute Sporting defence as Spalding skipper Liam Moore also saw his wayward cross from the right hit the top of the crossbar.

And Bromsgrove stunned Spalding with six minutes left to play as Benbow headed in Kelly’s floated cross from the left at the back post from six-yards out.

The Rouslers sealed the points deep into injury time on the 100-minute mark when Willock pounced a short backpass, rounded Spalding goalkeeper Daniel Wilks and finished into an empty net.

Victory for Sporting saw the Rouslers win on the road for the first time since August and just the second time in the league this campaign.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Needham Market on Friday, April 3 with kick-off at 3pm at Bloomfields.
