BROMSGROVE Sporting remain winless on the road in the league since September following a narrow 1-0 defeat at Kettering Town.

Sporting succumbed to Ben Isaacson’s goal on the stroke of half time at Latimer Park in a closely-fought contest.

The result means Bromsgrove sit 16th in the Southern League Premier Central table, two points clear of the relegation zone.

Sporting spurned a couple of early chances as both Jack Newell and Lewis Green failed to capitalise from promising positions.

Kettering wasted a golden chance to break the deadlock just past the half-hour mark as Eddie Panter pounced on a short backpass only to blaze a shot over the crossbar when one-on-one with Sporting goalkeeper Rory Brown.

However, the home side took the lead moments before the break when Isaacson headed a free-kick across the face of goal and into the net to put Kettering ahead.

Sporting looked to respond after the break as debutant Kyle Belmonte saw his corner cleared off the line.

And Belmonte then teed up Niall Flint with a through ball only for the latter to shoot straight at Kettering goalkeeper Paul White.

The Rouslers thought they should have had a penalty just past the hour mark when former Sporting man George Forsyth appeared to handle the ball in the box with the referee unmoved.

And the visitors almost snatched a point at the death when goalkeeper Brown, up for a corner, headed Jack Kelly’s free-kick into the path of Aaron Roberts only for Kettering to block the defender’s goalbound effort.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Stourbridge on Saturday, March 14 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
